The Mission

The Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial is dedicated to preserving the rich military heritage of South Florida for all its diverse community. 


We honor all branches of the US Armed Forces, as well as its clandestine services.

The History

The Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial is located on the grounds of the WWII Naval Air Station Richmond, which was the southernmost blimp base in the country. 


We display artifacts from South Florida veterans who participated in many theaters of operation from WWII to the present day.


We especially recognize the service, the sacrifice, and the accomplishments of the active military, veterans, families and supporters of this great community.

Highlights

The Museum hosted United States Southern Command's Commander General Laura Richardson. General Richardson toured the Women, Peace, and Security exhibit. During her visit, General Richardson emphasized the critical role of women in global security and praised the museum's dedication to preserving the rich heritage and contributions of women in the military.

During 2024 Fleet Week in Miami, the Museum hosted Sailors and Marines for a period of fellowship in honor of thier service to nation. Sergeant Major Carlos A. Ruiz, Sergeant Major of the United States Marine Corps, helped lead the festivites.

In May, the Museum hosted the Colombian War College. More than 50 Colombian military servicemembers toured the musuem to pay tribute to the rich heritage of Miami military community. Retired Air Force Lt Col Dui Turner joined Dr. Atwood and the Colombian delegation.

The Miami-Dade Military Museum hosted the Army Reserve 7217th Medical Support Unit for orientation. The Army Reserve 7217th Medical Support Unit served in our historic building from 1975 to 1985 as the 324th MASH.

Cadet Lee.png

Cadet Lee, pictured above, is one of our own NAS Richmond Sea Cadets. He has been selected to attend the rigorous and rewarding Naval Academy Preparatory School this summer. Next summer will be his plebe summer. 

The Miami-Dade Military Museum celebrated its Grand Opening on Veterans Day 2023, with grateful hearts, honoring those who served, surrounded by incredible people who made it all possible.
